ABAKAST-L (Abacavir & Lamivudine)

ABAKAST-L (Abacavir & Lamivudine) is an effective combined antiretroviral drug for the treatment of diseases caused by the HIV virus. It is used for children over 12 years old (over 14 kg) and adults. Belong to the group of nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. It contains two main active ingredients – abacavir and lamivudine, thanks to which the drug effectively fights the first and second types of HIV virus and prevents its spread in the host’s body.

The principle of the drug’s action is based on the sequential transformation of its active substances with the help of intracellular kinases into their active forms – triphosphates. These forms of abacavir and lamivudine form the viral DNA chain from monophosphates, which leads to its subsequent break.

Thanks to long-term studies of the drug in patients with HIV, it turned out that zidovudine increases the effectiveness of lamivudine, these substances in the complex tend to suppress the multiplication of infected cells in the human body to a greater extent. Abacavir is related to amprenavir, nevirapine and zidovudine, the combined use of which significantly increases the positive outcome of treatment.
