AXENTRI (Maraviroc) – belongs to the class of drugs that antagonize the CCR5 chemokine receptors, which are necessary for HIV to bind to the cell and for the virus to enter it. Selectively binding to the CCR5 chemokine receptors, maraviroc prevents the penetration of HIV-1, which is tropic to these receptors, into the cell.

No antagonism was found in cell culture when maraviroc was used with other antiretroviral drugs.
